Reeves Hall

Hi There First Church Family Members,

I have been fortunate to be involved at First United Methodist since I was baptized there as a baby in September 1958.

One of my fondest memories is being involved in the Chancel Choir at the same time that my Mom was. I grew up in the church being involved first in the Cherub Choir, then Altar Choir, and finally Chancel Choir. One of my funniest memories is of the time at the 11 pm Christmas Eve service when I managed to fall on the steps, and my family, who was sitting in the first pew did not see it happen!

I think my faith and Jesus’ teachings have always been the solid rock that I have always been able to lean on during my life. When you have good days and everything is going as expected it might be easy not to have to lean on Jesus. But when you have adversity to face, and troubled times are all you see, you need to remember that Jesus is always there, he never falters, and you can depend on Him to see you through until the good times return. I think the current situation that the world is going through has caused a lot of people to re-examine their own faith, and come to realize what truly is important.

I am glad that I am able to be part of one of our adult Sunday School classes at FUMC. If I lived closer to Millville and didn’t have time constraints most of the time, I would like to think that I would take advantage of some of the other small group opportunities that our church offers. At one point I was thrilled to be able to obtain my local lay speaker certification. (that’s back when it was still called lay speaker!) Unfortunately my certificate lapsed. If the opportunity presents itself, I would like to attend the classes again, and get my certification again. I’m also glad for the opportunity to attend the weekly Bible study via Zoom.

I feel that because God has blessed me with spiritual gifts, it’s my duty to share what I can with our church and church family. I am also happy that I am able to contribute financially to the overall operation of the church. Our God has provided us with these gifts, they are not ours to keep to ourselves.

It is my hope that we continue to reach beyond our four walls and share the Good News of our Blessed Lord and Savior with our neighbors. I am of the opinion that the United Methodist Church’s motto of Open Minds, Open Hearts, Open Doors is vital to our overall beliefs and what we say and do as a church.

In closing, I hope that our entire congregation takes to heart exactly what our generosity campaign of Greater Than means, and with the cooperation and contributions from each and every member, be it time, talents, gifts or service, great things can be done at First United Methodist Church of Millville.

Blessings to all of you!!
